Dozens of supporters filled Liuba Grechen Shirley's campaign office Monday as Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone endorsed her for Congress.
"She stands up, gives a voice to the voiceless, help to the helpless. And that's what we need," Curran said.
Gretchen Shirley is a community organizer and has also worked alongside business and non-profit organizations. Her legislative priorities include fighting for universal health care and tax cuts as well as protecting the environment. Gretchen Shirley defeated DuWayne Gregory, who is the presiding officer of the Suffolk County Legislature, in the Democratic primary on June 26. In November, she goes up against Republican incumbent Peter King, both battling to represent New York's 2nd congressional district.
"The challenge is to get out there, get our message out there, and talk to people, get people excited about the issues." Gretchen Shirley said.
